Purpose of the Role:
The Software Developer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing solutions across the full technology stack, building and maintaining modern applications. This role will work as part of an AGILE team, contribute to DevOps practices, and assist in enhancing enterprise application capabilities for Eduvos. This role will have solid experience in full stack development covering both frontend and backend technologies and demonstrate strong technical skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications / Education
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent NQF-7 qualification (Advanced Diploma or Bachelor of Technology) in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of hands-on software engineering experience building and maintaining web applications across the full stack in a modern software environment, including frontend development with modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js, or Angular) and backend development with Python frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
- Minimum of 2 years' relevant experience working with PostgreSQL or other relational databases in a production environment
Functional And Behavioural Competencies
Technical / Functional Competencies:
- Frontend Expertise: Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js, or Angular) alongside HTML5, CSS3/Tailwind, and modern state management
- Backend Expertise: Solid hands-on experience with Python frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI, and building scalable RESTful/GraphQL APIs
- Databases & DevOps: Practical technical knowledge of PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimisation, and performance tuning, as well as familiarity with NoSQL databases, cloud environments (AWS), Docker
- Working knowledge of web security, performance optimisation, and modern architecture patterns; ability to break down complex technical problems into clean, scalable solutions
- Working understanding of relational database concepts and ability to write and troubleshoot complex SQL queries
- Initiative and adaptability to changing technologies and requirements
- Working knowledge of Agile methodologies and ability to apply principles in daily tasks
- Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps (or similar) for boards, repos, and basic CI/CD pipeline maintenance
- Ability to write and maintain unit tests and integrate them into pipelines
- Experience with DevOps practices
- Good coding standards and debugging skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and participate in Agile ceremonies
- Strong organisational and time management skills for sprint delivery
