Mobile Application Developer

PathCare is a leading medical diagnostic services provider. Digital systems drive our specimen journeys from request, specimen collection, processing in high-tech laboratories to data analysis and value-adding reporting to assist clinical decision making.

Join us for a major systems-renewal project! We are seeking a passionate and skilled Mobile App Developer to join our technical team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in building scalable cross-platform web and mobile applications using Angular and Capacitor with Ionic UI framework. You will play a crucial role in designing, developing, testing, and deploying high-quality enterprise and client-facing applications, delivering seamless user experiences.

This position will be based at our headquarters in Cape Town, South Africa.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain cross-platform web and mobile applications (Android & iOS) using Angular and Capacitor with Ionic UI framework
  • Build responsive, high-performance UI components using Angular best practices
  • Write high-quality, reusable, well-documented, and efficient code, and related test scripts that conform to PathCare standards
  • Apply Object Orientated Programming principles to ensure scalability and maintainability of code
  • Debug, test, and optimize apps for both web and mobile environments
  • Work closely with backend teams to integrate REST APIs
  • Generate and manage mobile builds using Android Studio and Xcode
  • Deploy applications to both iOS and Android platforms
  • Publish apps to Google Play store and Apple App store
  • Provide detailed estimates of work and ensure features are delivered on time
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement
  • Maintain applications and provide technical support as escalated from operational teams
Key Competency Requirements
  • Solid experience with recent Angular
  • Hands-on experience with Capacitor and Ionic framework
  • Experience building and deploying Android and iOS apps
  • Good understanding of mobile UI/UX design principles
  • Ability to troubleshoot mobile-specific performance or compatibility issues
  • Knowledge of security best practices
  • A comprehensive understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies

Advantageous Skills

  • Experience working with CouchDB or equivalent technologies for offline access
  • Experience working with tools like Git, Jenkins, docker, flyway and Jira
  • Experience with KeyCloak setup and integration
  • Experience or interest in native AWS app development
  • Strong time and complexity estimation skills

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum of 5 years mobile development experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent qualification(s)
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills
  • An innovative and creative thinker with a passion for staying ahead of current industry trends
  • Proven delivery record and the ability to work effectively without close supervision
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal (English)
