Senior RFOps Engineer

Introduction

The Senior RF Operations Engineer is responsible for the performance, optimisation, and operational stability of the organisation’s wireless (RF) network.

This role focuses on ensuring optimal radio network performance, managing RF-related incidents, supporting network expansion, and driving continuous improvements in coverage, capacity, and quality of service.

Duties & Responsibilities

Critical Outputs

1. RF Network Performance & Optimisation

• Monitor and optimise RF network performance (coverage, capacity, quality)
• Analyse KPIs such as signal strength, interference, throughput, and latency
• Identify and resolve RF performance issues (congestion, interference, signal degradation)
• Drive continuous network optimisation initiatives

2. RF Operations & Support

• Provide operational support for wireless networks (LTE, 4G/5G, microwave, point-to-point)
• Act as escalation point for RF-related incidents and outages
• Support troubleshooting of complex network issues affecting radio performance
• Collaborate with NOC and NetOps teams on incident resolution

3. Network Planning & Capacity Management

• Support RF planning for network expansion and upgrades
• Conduct capacity planning and forecasting
• Work with planning teams on site design and coverage improvements
• Validate new site deployments and ensure optimal RF performance

4. Interference & Spectrum Management

• Identify and mitigate RF interference issues
• Ensure optimal spectrum utilisation
• Conduct frequency planning and coordination
• Monitor external interference sources and take corrective action

5. Field & Site Coordination

• Work closely with field technicians on site installations and troubleshooting
• Conduct site audits, drive testing, and performance validation
• Ensure alignment between design and implementation

6. Tools, Reporting & Analysis

• Use RF planning and optimisation tools (e.g., Atoll, iBwave, etc.)
• Analyse network performance data and generate reports
• Provide recommendations to improve network quality and efficiency

7. Continuous Improvement & Automation

• Drive improvements in RF operational processes
• Implement automation or tools to enhance monitoring and optimisation
• Support innovation in wireless technologies

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Diploma / Degree in Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, IT, or related field

Certifications (Advantageous / Preferred)

• RF / Wireless certifications
• Vendor certifications (Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia, NEC, etc.)

Experience

• 5–8 years’ experience in RF engineering / wireless network operations
• Strong experience in telecoms / ISP / CSP environments
• Proven experience in RF optimisation and troubleshooting
• Experience working with LTE / 4G / 5G or microwave networks

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of:
  • RF principles, propagation, and link budgeting
  • Wireless technologies (LTE, 4G/5G, microwave, point-to-point, Wi-Fi)
  • Spectrum and frequency planning
• Experience with RF tools (Atoll, iBwave, LinkPlanner, etc.)
• Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, routing basics)
• Experience with drive testing and RF analysis tools
