Payment24, a fintech company specializing in the petroleum, fleet & banking industries, is looking for an experienced SQL Developer to join our team in Century City. As a SQL Developer, you will work closely with our Software Engineering and MS Infrastructure & Security teams to ensure successful client deployments of the Payment24 solution. This is a unique role that demands both technical competence with some client facing abilities. .

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced SQL Developer to join our data team, with a strong focus on query performance and optimisation. You'll work on designing, tuning, and maintaining complex database solutions that power our reporting, analytics, and application layers. As a SQL Developer, you will work closely with our Software Engineering and MS Infrastructure & Security teams to ensure successful client deployments of the Payment24 solution. This is a unique role that demands both technical competence with some client facing abilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions
• Analyse and optimise existing queries and database structures to improve performance and reduce execution time
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks through indexing strategies, query rewriting, and execution plan analysis
• Monitor database performance and proactively recommend improvements
• Collaborate with developers, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements
• Support ETL processes and data pipelines, ensuring data integrity and efficiency
• Write clear documentation for database design, optimisation decisions, and standards
• Conduct code reviews with a focus on query efficiency and best practices
• Troubleshoot production database issues, including deadlocks, slow queries, and resource contention

Required Skills & Experience

• 5 years of hands-on experience as a SQL Developer or in a similar database-focused role
• Strong expertise in T-SQL / PL-SQL (or equivalent, depending on platform: SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• Proven track record of query optimisation and performance tuning (indexing, execution plans, query refactoring)
• Solid understanding of database design principles, normalisation, and data modelling
• Experience with stored procedures, triggers, and functions
• Familiarity with ETL tools/processes
• Experience diagnosing and resolving performance issues in high-volume, production environments
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have

• Experience with cloud database platforms (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL)
• Exposure to version control (Azure DevOps) and CI/CD for database changes
