My name is Adelaide Aphane, I’m a female & I have a B-Tech degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Vaal University of Technology. I have about 10years of practical experience in the field of Metallurgy. varying from Steelmaking, Aluminium & Ferro-chrome smelting and now recently in the cement manufacturing as a Line Manager. My daily duties involve report writing, trouble shooting, internal SHEQ audits, doing presentations to top management about plant performances, coaching and training of personnel & attending management meetings.
I have been involved in plant commissioning & medium to long term projects all in the aim of reducing costs & improving the performance of the facility. I was also responsible for acquiring the SABS mark on our product by building a robust Quality Management System for our plant. I also acquired our environmental permits for emitting air & water into the environment in a responsible manner.
My personal attributes include being a team player, working well under pressure, I learn fast & I’m always willing to share my knowledge with my team
Plant & Projects Metallurgist: Assmang Khumani Iron Ore Mine (Oct 2020 - Feb 2026)
Monitor the daily plant/process KPIs of producing Fe and perform short to medium term optimization projects, thus reducing the R/ton cost of Fe
Effectively plan, justify for funding in order to effectively facilitate & implement
Metallurgical Projects with the aim of improving operational efficiencies &
quality of Products produced at Khumani Mine
Responsible for different plant sections i.e Parsons plant & currently responsible for King & Bruce plants to monitor daily KPIs and give support to the Ops team & other core stakeholders
Acted in the Senior Metallurgy position from time to time
Re-calibration of the ROM Geoscan to get them to be fully functional

send it through the Sintering process to produce a high Mn-grade lumpy product taking into consideration people's safety, volumes, cost & the environment
Responsible for a team of 45 employees all on shift basis namely: 5
Production Supervisors & (4 on shift & 1 on day shift), 12 process controllers
(responsible for operating the plants), 20 Field operators (field inspections &
plant aids), 8 cleaners (contractors 2/shift to help at the de-dust plants)
Ensure that daily production & quality targets are achieved both at the DMS &
sinter plant & take corrective actions if targets are not met
Involved in weekly & monthly planning meeting to reconcile stockpiles,
