Mechanical Fitter - Merensky Sawmill

Installing, fitting, maintaining, repairing and overhauling mechanical equipment and machinery within the sawmill production environment.

• Conducting routine inspections of mechanical equipment to identify faults, excessive wear, misalignment, leaks and potential equipment failures.
• Dismantling, inspecting, repairing, assembling and fitting mechanical components in accordance with maintenance requirements and equipment specifications.
• Performing preventative and corrective maintenance on conveyors, bearings, pumps, gearboxes, motors, rollers and other mechanical production equipment.
• Diagnosing mechanical faults and breakdowns using appropriate tools, inspection methods and technical knowledge to restore equipment to operational condition.
• Carrying out the removal and replacement of worn, damaged or defective mechanical components to maintain reliable equipment performance.
• Performing mechanical alignment of shafts, couplings, bearings, pulleys and other rotating equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation.

• Responding to mechanical breakdowns and equipment failures to restore production operations and minimise machinery downtime.
• Supporting the installation and removal of mechanical equipment, including the safe handling, positioning, fitting and securing of heavy machinery and components.
• Maintaining mechanical equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturer specifications, maintenance schedules and established engineering practices.
• Recording maintenance activities, repairs, component replacements and recurring mechanical faults to support accurate maintenance planning and equipment history.
