About

South African Geomatics Council (SAGC) registered Professional GISc Practitioner (GPrGISc 1594) with a BSc in Geomatics and BSc (Hons) in Computer Science, and four years delivering geospatial analysis, data quality control and reporting for national water resource management. Designed and implemented the enhanced Standardised Precipitation Index (SPI) analysis dashboard for South Africa's drought monitoring on the National Integrated Water Information System (NIWIS) project and led the establishment of a centralised ArcGIS Online application consolidating Western Cape provincial monitoring programmes. Earlier experience spans throughout various fields in the Geomatics sector, including terrestrial LiDAR processing, 3D modelling, land surveying and remote sensing.

Comfortable directing data standards and quality across multi-source spatial datasets and providing GIS consultancy to internal and external clients.

Experience

Candidate GIS Professional at Department of Water and Sanitation (National) (2022-09 – 2026-08)

  • Delivered the spatial component of National Integrated Water Information System (NIWIS) enhancement project, reconciling 44 years of monthly records from 1 379 weather stations into the 94 rainfall districts covering South Africa.
  • Served as the sole GIS practitioner in the unit for a period, carrying the full geospatial workload independently, and subsequently trained newly appointed colleague and oversaw their work.
  • Led the development of a centralised ArcGIS Online monitoring application consolidating 6 provincial monitoring programmes and roughly 330 stations, including areas of overlap with external stakeholders.
  • Directed accuracy, standards and quality control across spatial and tabular datasets, performing QA/QC checks and maintaining data standardisation and metadata practices.
  • Produced maps, classified spatial products, dashboards and reporting tools supporting planning, monitoring and climate response across departmental programmes.
  • Processed and analysed multi-source remote sensing datasets such as Landsat, MODIS, Sentinel and SPOT, applying classification techniques and vegetation and drought indices to assess environmental condition.
  • Automated recurring data consolidation with internal tooling built in Java and Python, replacing manual processing of multi-thousand-record datasets.
  • Provided GIS consultancy, training and technical guidance to colleagues and external stakeholders, and contributed a geospatial perspective to departmental digitalisation and data-architecture work across business areas.

Student Assistant - Heritage Documentation at The Zamani Project, University of Cape Town (2019-07 – 2019-11)

  • Assisted in the processing of high-resolution terrestrial LiDAR scans to develop three-dimensional models for the preservation of African cultural heritage sites.
  • Generated panoramic virtual tours of historical sites supporting digital preservation and public access.
  • Managed digital data and contributed to digital collections built from spatially surveyed data.

Land Surveying Intern at Lloyd & Hill Inc. (2019-01 – 2019-01)

  • Conducted GNSS surveys supporting cadastral mapping and infrastructure planning, and processed differential GPS datasets to improve spatial accuracy in topographic mapping.
  • Carried out field traversing and levelling, and developed georeferenced 3D models of surveyed terrain using point cloud processing in LiDAR software.
