I am an undergraduate at the University of Pretoria currently completing the final year of my Bachelor of social work (BSW) degree. I am passionate about the social work profession and about the well-being of others.
I believe my extroverted personality uniquely qualifies me for any position as it allows me to communicate with others comfortably. It also makes me easy to talk to. I pride myself on being a good listener, being assertive, and working well under pressure. I also look forward to developing these skills, as well as continuously acquiring new skills.
As part of my final year studies, I had a practical placement at Stabilis treatment centre from February to October 2022. Stabilis is a rehabilitation centre primarily focusing on alcohol and drug use. I was a therapist, facilitating individual and group therapy. I also facilitated a six-week workshop on emotional intelligence, for which I compiled a workbook and presentation in order to assist in the facilitation process utilising my planning and organisational skills.
To date, I serve as a volunteer and group leader at YOOF, a nonprofit organization that focuses on uplifting the youth. They host a camp with 100+ teenagers every year. Furthermore, I volunteer on the tech team and as a group leader at Plantasie Midrand, the youth ministry of Lewende Woord Midrand. They host weekly gatherings for high school students. I believe that the youth of today are our future leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs and that it is essential to invest in their well-being.
