The Company, due to Economic circumstances, embarked on a cost saving program by selling some of its properties and reducing staff by making use of the selection criteria known as "LIFO" (Last in, first out) and therefore I was Retrenched. I decided to semi retire and to continue making a meaningful contribution to the Hotel/Hospitality Industry as and when an appropriate opportunity presents itself.

My reason for leaving is that I was offered the Position as General Manager at one of the National Hotel Groups in South Africa and therefor I resigned.

However, with my experience and passion I still have the desire to continue working in the Hospitality/Service Industry, as I believe that I can make a positive contribution and add value to the industry.
General Manager - The Sage Hotel Nigeria

The Sage is a 4/5* Boutique Hotel and as General Manager I am responsible for the full Operation / Wellbeing of the Hotel, in accordance with Standard Hotel General Management practices. The Hotel comprises of 18 Classic, 12 Superior Rooms and 4 Executive Suites. Furthermore, there is a 32-Seater Restaurant, 40-Seater Cocktail Bar, 80 Seater Conference Room, Gymnasium and a Business Centre.
The Food & Beverage Dept. operates 24 Hours a day. The total Staff Complement was 54. My reason for leaving is that at the end of September 2013 I learnt that the Company did not have the required documentation which allows them to employ foreigners/expats.
I approached the South African Embassy who in turn advised that I rather return to South Africa, as this was improper practice. I followed their advice and returned to South Africa.
Project Manager - Allterrain Services (ATS) - Lumwana Copper Mine, Zambia

ATS were contracted to manage the Hospitality Services on behalf of Barrick Mining Company at the Lumwana Copper Mine in Zambia. At Lumwana we served +- 10500 Meals per day and provided Catering Services to all Conferences/Functions daily. The Accommodation comprised of 3600 beds with various accommodation options/styles.
Services included a Fast-Food Restaurant, A la Carte Restaurant, 2 x Bars, Supermarket and a Tuck/Phone Shop.
Manager I was responsible for maintaining overall Service Standards, Implementation of and Adherence to Admin/Control Systems, Client Satisfaction and to ensure the Contract was Profitable for ATS. The Staff complement for which I was responsible was +-540. My reason for leaving is that my Contract ended, so I returned to South Africa.
50% Partner - Worldwide Franchise CC - Pine Lodge Resort and Conference Centre, Port Elizabeth

Worldwide Franchise is contracted to provide a fully comprehensive Food and Beverage Service to Pine Lodge Resort and Conference Centre in Port Elizabeth. The Resort comprised of 210 Beds, Restaurants, Bars, 1 Large Conference/Banqueting Facility which subdivides into 4 and 3 more dedicated Conference rooms.
Business was Corporate Conferencing, Functions/Banquets and Weddings. We served approximately 74 000 Conference meals annually. In addition, we operated a 154 seater Buffet Restaurant, serving Breakfast, Conference Lunches and Dinners, as well as 3 Bars. Conferences took place daily and varied from small Company Training Programs of +- 20 delegates, Major Product Launches and 5 day Corporate Conferences with up to +- 600 delegates. As I was very "Hands On", I ran a very "Tight Ship" with 26 Staff. The Functions/Banquets/Weddings were anything from 20 to 420 guests on any given day. In March 2012 I unfortunately went through a divorce which I had immense difficulty in dealing with. As a result, I chose to sell my Shares in the Business and to move out of Port Elizabeth. To date the Business still operates very successfully.

As General Manager I was responsible for the full Operation/Wellbeing of the Hotel, in accordance with Standard Hotel General Management Practices. I was also involved with a R4.2 million Hotel upgrade. I was approached to join Supervision Food Services. This afforded me the opportunity to gain exposure/experience in the Contract Catering Field.
Hotel Manager - Majestic Hotel

Full Hotel management responsibilities. I was responsible for overseeing an extensive renovation programme of the hotel, improving the service and product, resulting in the monthly turnover increasing by as much as 120%. I was approached by Karos Hotels to join the Group as General Manager of the Richards Hotel in Northern Natal.
Assistant Manager / Food & Beverage/Entertainment Manager / Resident Manager - Kings Hotel – East London

In 1984 I was promoted to Food & Beverage/Entertainment Manager. In 1985 I was promoted to Resident Manager of the Kings Hotel. The hotel was demolished to make place for a new hotel with timeshare facilities and an entertainment centre. This project, however, did not come to fruition.
Professional Musician - Professional Musician

Professional musician performing on the Southern Sun and Holiday Inn Circuits. Through my indirect involvement in Hotels, I developed an interest to get directly involved in the industry. I was afforded the opportunity with Baumker Hotels, at the Kings Hotel East London. The Company also owned three other Hotels. These were in East London, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town respectively.
