Responsible for the Regional execution and development of new and or revised packaging development for all assigned brands. Liaising with marketing, procurement, product, and production staff on new product development and packaging changes to existing products. Confirmation with representatives of engineering, marketing, management, and quality departments to determine packaging requirements.
Provides innovative and cost-effective packaging options and technical support to Marketing and Product as functional packaging expert, ensuring schedules are met and that packaging execution is achieved, investigates new packaging techniques, suppliers, materials, and processes to provide on-going support for marketing decisions.
Specific Responsibilities
- Research new packaging techniques, suppliers, materials, processes, and supplier developments to provide innovative and cost-effective packaging concepts and solutions
- Advises Marketing on feasibility of new packaging concepts through kick off meetings with suppliers, and consideration for manufacturing and cost-effective packaging requirements.
- Maintain awareness of new trends in technology, such as new material development (e.g., efficiency, sustainability, etc.), manufacturing processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct in-depth evaluation of design concepts by extensive testing and makes modifications if necessary
- Collaborate with engineering and quality to develop test parameters and protocols to ensure all technical, product delivery, and application criteria are achieved.
- In conjunction with other departments, Finance, Engineering, Purchasing, suppliers, etc., facilitate SLA, costing for new package concepts and components as a basis for early Marketing decisions.
- Develop timetable and critical milestones for new product introduction, with consideration for supplier lead-times and Operation parameters
- Prepare/oversee timely and accurate preparation of Bill of Materials
- Recommend and participate in the supplier selection process
- Ensures suppliers can maintain the integrity of the selected package.
- Initiate and review supplier technical drawings, models, and samples
- Develop/ prepare Specifications to ensure package performance throughout lifecycle of the product with consideration given to dimensional analysis with realistic tolerances to ensure fit with machine parameters, components and reliability of selected manufacturing processes to ensure both technical and aesthetic repeatability
- Obtain necessary engineering and product approval of selected component, including material compatibility and functional characteristics, and ensures performance criteria are met.
- Obtain/review 1st material qualification of Inspecting samples to ensure accuracy of components and specifications.
- Project Leader on Brand scope from initial stages through the manufacturing, to coordinate project activity between Marketing, Creative, Product, and operational groups.
- Ensures compliance of component to agreed-upon specifications
- Obtain colour standards/press proofs for review and approval for consistency, accuracy, and colour specificity.
- Issue or oversee the issuing of final Package Specifications and final Bills of Materials.
- Conduct sign-off on Packaging Design with local and international suppliers in Germany, East Africa, West Africa, India & South Africa
