I am a well seasoned diplomat with 24 years of Foreign Affairs service. I have represented South Africa at the UN (New York), Rwanda (Kigali), United Kingdom (London) and in California (Los Angeles) at various times and in various capacities for more than two decades. Majored in English, History and Political Science. I was an English Tutor at a High School in Durban before joining the Department of Foreign Affairs in Pretoria. I am an accomplished Public Speaker and a Speech writer of note having excelled at these rare skills throughout my diplomatic career.
Began my working life as an English Tutor at a High School in Durban (1987-1991). I joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1992 as a Cadet and did and passed the Entrance Examination for the Diplomats of South Africa. My first posting was as a First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of RSA at the UN Headquarters in New York (1995-1998). My next posting was as the Deputy Ambassador of RSA in Rwanda (2000-2004). This was followed by my appointment as the Deputy High Commissioner of RSA to the United Kingdom (2005-2010). My fourth and last posting was as the Consul General of South Africa based in Los Angeles, from where I serviced the whole thirteen States on the West Coast of the USA (2011-2015). On return from LA, I was appointed as the Director responsible for Economic Diplomacy and Trade and Investment between RSA and the rest of the world.
On joining the South African Diplomatic Corps as a Cadet in 1992, like other aspirant diplomats, I wrote and passed the Entrance Examination for Diplomats after two years of training. The Certificate of Competency in Diplomacy is equivalent to a Masters degree as evaluated by the World Education Services based in New York.The entrance requirement for the Certificate is a Bachelors degree.
