Experience

Business Analysis at Stellenbosch University (2026-08 – Present)

I lead the discovery and documentation of current-state (as-is) processes and help design future-state (to-be) processes across academic and support departments.

  • Designing and validating finance integrations between core systems (e.g., Policy Admin, Cash Management) and general ledgers (Oracle).
  • Implementing rigorous internal controls and compliance frameworks (Sarbanes Oxley) within system workflows and business processes.
  • Enhancing reporting accuracy and reliability through risk-aware requirements gathering and control validation.
  • Ensuring that technology solutions not only meet functional needs but also adhere to governance, risk, and compliance standards.
  • Projects: Business Process Improvement: Enquiry Management; Business Process Improvement: Human Resources; Risk Assessment Tool Optimisation; Student Wallet.
  • Current-state (as-is) analysis: Lead the discovery and documentation of existing business processes on process improvement projects. This work becomes the agreed starting point for all improvement work.
  • Future-state (to-be) design: Work with stakeholders and the project team to turn current-state findings into future processes that are more efficient, consistent and ready for systems.
  • Workshop facilitation: Plan and run workshops with academic, administrative and support staff to gather requirements, map processes and confirm findings.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Act as the link between business units, process owners, IT and project leadership, keeping everyone aligned on scope, findings and recommendations.
  • Process documentation: Produce clear, standardised process maps and supporting documents that people across the university can use for reference.
  • Team collaboration: Work within a multidisciplinary project team, share analysis outputs and support colleagues across the project lifecycle.
  • Plan current-state discovery for each project, including scope, the stakeholders involved, the workshop schedule and the deliverables.
  • Coordinate workshop logistics and prepare agendas, pre-reading and session objectives so that sessions are focused and productive.
  • Manage my analysis work against project timelines and report progress, risks and dependencies to the project lead.
  • Track actions, decisions and open issues from workshops through to closure.
  • Manage the review and sign-off of current-state and future-state documents with process owners and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to project planning within the team structure, making sure the analysis phases fit with the overall project roadmap.
  • Keep version control and good document management for all process artefacts.
  • Gather information through workshops, interviews, observation and document review to build an accurate picture of how work actually gets done.
  • Model current-state processes using [BPMN / Visio], including swimlanes, handoffs, decision points and system touchpoints.
  • Find pain points, bottlenecks, duplicated effort, manual workarounds, control gaps and compliance risks in existing processes.
  • Carry out root-cause and gap analysis to show the difference between current performance and what the business needs.
  • Design future-state processes that simplify steps, clarify roles and responsibilities, and identify opportunities for automation or system improvement.
  • Define and document business requirements, business rules and process improvement recommendations.
  • Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders and management to support decisions.
  • Impact: Through structured workshops I bring together academic, administrative and support stakeholders to agree on shared, well-documented processes. I then turn that understanding into practical to-be designs that cut inefficiency, clarify accountability and prepare the university for automation and system improvements.
