Apprenticeship / Assistant Mechanic - Sekhukhune Logistics

(2024-06 - 2026-06)

On job training / Work Exposure in the Logistics sector. Heavy Duty Truck models worked on are: Mercedes benz, Scania, DAF, FAW, UD and Earth Moving Equipment (SANY).

Assist Artisans with Service Maintenance and Repairs, major overhauls and troubleshooting on diesel equipment & Brake down attendance
Strip and determine the parts required for services and repairs preferably: Airbrakes repair (Pneumatic systems), overhaul engines, transmission, differentials, final drives and hydraulic systems, electronics, suspensions & steering circuits
Removing, repairing and replacing major components such as engines, transmissions, differential and torque converters
Using advanced technology diagnostic software and tools for fault findings
Ensuring compliance with safety regulations preferably, mine health and safety standards
Risk assessment including isolation lock out procedures
Updating services logs and completing job cards to/for repairs/work done and actual time taken
Keeping the work area clean and safe (Good housekeeping)
Carrying out simple inspections and reporting issues
Trailer weldings, Greasing and Tyre Fittings
LDV mechanical and servicing e.t.c

Plant Operator - Impala platinum mine

Assist Artisan in selecting various tools and cleaning of parts / machinery when on Callouts / Standby
Assist the Artisan in repairing and assembling various type of machines
Assist the Artisan in stripping machinery or equipments
Inspect and operating Pneumatic and hydraulic systems to keep up production
Working on various Slurry Pumps and Water Pumps (Rotary, Centrifugal etc)
General Good housekeeping duties including cleaning of machinery, section and equipment
Conveyor Belt Operation
Taking dip sample in the Thickeners
Taking samples from Pgm's (Merensky & UG2)
Flocculent mixing and dosage supply and De-choking
Removing Clinkers from the Stoker or HGG
De-choking Pneumatic systems
Overhead Crane Operation and working at heights
