Secondary English Teacher
Send a job offer directly to this candidate
My name is Eleonor van den Heever and I am applying for the role of English Teacher in the Secondary phase. I have been interested in teaching abroad for some time and have been actively pursuing it since January 2023. In my research, I found your organization and was at once interested in the roles you offer and the goals you support. I am excited to submit this letter as part of my application and deeply appreciate the opportunity you have provided for me.
For the past 10 years, I have been teaching English at Zwartkop High School in Centurion, South Africa. Zwartkop is what is called a macro school with over 1800 students. Class size averages 30 students per teacher.
For the past 5 years I have been responsible for teaching Grade 12 students – the equivalent of A-levels in the Cambridge curriculum and I have had excellent results, with no candidates failing and 35 distinctions in 2022. Apart from my academic role as teacher and coordinator, I also manage a full extramural programme, where I am involved with the school choir, the Junior Mayoral Committee and the Spelling bee competition amongst others.
My core values are integrity, excellence, enthusiasm and embracing diversity. I believe in getting results through caring for people as individuals, and this recipe has led to me being a remarkably successful, approachable and popular teacher. Learners respect my subject knowledge and the fact that I treat them fairly and as the diverse individuals they are.
This quality should make me highly effective in an International school such as yours. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about new cultures as it broadens the mind and gives one a richer perspective on life. I am a lifelong learner and constantly push myself to be better and to remain relevant in the classroom.
Thank you for your consideration and time as you read this letter.
