Mathematics teacher (10 years), University Mathematics Lecturer ( 19 years) and Researcher in Mathematics education and applied Mathematics (novel numerical methods to solve differential models, describing unsteady magneto-hydrodynamic flow).
I am a qualified high school mathematics teacher and a university mathematics lecturer. I have taught for 12 years at various schools - 2 years in South Africa & 10 years in Zimbabwe and have gained valuable insight into the challenges facing the sector of the educational landscape. I have also taught at various universities for almost 19 years, in South Africa (12 years) and Zimbabwe (7 years) respectively.
At CPUT I focus on teaching underprepared first year students who may have been disadvantaged by virtue of their previous schools’ background constraints - human resources or physical resources and try to help them bridge the gap between high school and university mathematics so that at the end of the first year they assimilate into the university system. I held the post of Extended curriculum Program (ECP) coordinator (2010 - 2015) mandated to ensure that the program for the under – prepared students run smoothly. Teaching is a passion and a calling, and I really enjoy being among the students, particularly when they in class maybe doing some investigation and are fully engaged in the shared enterprise of learning.
I derive joy when as teachers we demystify the myth that mathematics is difficult. As an elder of some religious organization, I have also learnt to associate with the young and the old and have learnt to accommodate varying viewpoints from people in life.
I have enjoyed playing various roles in the schools & universities that I have attended which include that of HOD mathematics at high school, Mathematics & Statistics Program coordinator at the Zimbabwe Open University, advanced level mathematics examiner, Team leader and Regional chief examiner under the Zimbabwe School examination council (ZIMSEC).
