I have the ability to assist people in recognizing their potential and their capacity via social work intervention.
I have the desire to help people improve their circumstances through PCA approaches as well as the PERMAH framework.
I am motivated to learn and continue improving my knowledge and skills as a social worker.
I am passionate about empowering people to tap into their own source of resilience through solution focused therapy techniques. I am willing to learn and grow at every chance I get.
In my final year at Auckland park, I worked in the spinal cord unit where I introduced and implemented a new system. I introduced an additional Psycho-social group for the spouses and family members, which was held separately from the Patients Psychosocial group. Prior to this the Occupational Therapist would hold these sessions with only the patient.
Within this Unit I facilitated an educational group each week with patients and their families relating the psychosocial aspects of living with a spinal cord injury. I educated the patients on the injury, on duty legislation and referred to the psychologist for sexual health counselling.
Each week I was part of a multidisciplinary team meeting where I provided feedback to the team on how the patient and family was coping with the emotional trauma and what progress had been made regarding safe discharge planning.
