IT Internship at KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Treasury (2025-04 – Present)

• System Installation & Configuration: Installed, configured, and upgraded computer hardware, software applications, operating systems and peripherals (printers, scanners, and routers) to ensure optimal performance and compliance with departmental standards. Deployed and managed Sophos endpoint protection software, ensuring systems remained secure and up to date with the latest threat definitions and policies. Administered YSoft print management software to control, monitor, and manage departmental printing, ensuring secure print release and accurate usage tracking.
• Microsoft 365 & Exchange Support: Provided support for MS 365 products, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive. Assisted in the migration of GroupWise emails to Microsoft Exchange 2016, ensuring smooth transition with minimal downtime.

• Active Directory Management: Created and managed user accounts, reset passwords, and applied group policies to maintain security and access control. Set up accounts for new users and ensured correct access permissions across the department.
• Network & Server Maintenance: Monitored and maintained Local Area Networks (LAN) and WAN connectivity, DHCP, and DNS services. Assisted with VMware server administration, including routine maintenance and updates. Worked with Windows Server 2016 environments to support departmental operations.
• Remote Support & Tools: Utilised remote desktop tools including TightVNC Viewer and TeamViewer to provide off-site technical assistance to end users across multiple sites.
• Ticketing & Call Log Management: Logged, tracked, and resolved IT support requests using the IT Service Desk system (ITservicedesk@kzntreasury.gov.za). Managed end-to-end ticket lifecycle including assignment, escalation, and closure, ensuring timely resolution and accurate documentation of all support interactions.
• End-User Support: Delivered technical support across the department, resolving hardware, software, and connectivity issues. Provided orientation and training to staff on new systems and tools.
• Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Diagnosed and resolved technical issues through hardware replacement, software debugging, and system optimization.
