About
BSc Biotechnology graduate with a developing interdisciplinary focus in bioinformatics, computational biology. Undergraduate training provided exposure to molecular biology, microbiology and bioinformatics, including sequence analysis, BLAST-based comparisons and phylogenetic tree construction, alongside laboratory techniques such as PCR, ELISA and Western blotting. Currently gaining industry experience as a Quality Intern at Fair Cape Dairies, where I generate, capture and interpret microbiological and environmental testing data, perform Excel-based trend analysis, and work within controlled laboratory and quality systems.
Seeking to build advanced computational and analytical capability for future work across biomedical research, clinical research, R&D, genomics/omics and regulatory science.
Experience
Quality Intern, Microbiology & Production Laboratory at FairCapeDairies (2026-02 – Present)
- Conduct routine microbiological testing for TVCs, coliforms, yeast & moulds, Pseudomonas and Listeria according to laboratory procedures.
- Capture laboratory results accurately and use Excel-based trend analysis to compare results, identify quality trends and flag potential deviations or areas requiring investigation.
- Conduct environmental monitoring through rinse-water testing, air sampling and post-cleaning equipment swabbing, generating data used to assess hygiene and contamination-control performance.
- Participate in accelerated and shelf-life extension studies, including scheduled microbiological testing, plate counting, result recording and preservation of test evidence.
- Apply aseptic technique, contamination-control practices and sample-handling procedures to support reliable and traceable laboratory results.
- Perform pH, temperature, viscosity and Brix measurements and verify laboratory equipment before use to support dependable analytical measurements.
- Assist with CIP monitoring, production-line quality checks and routine microbiological monitoring within a controlled food-production environment.
- Maintain laboratory records and technical documentation, monitor incubator and refrigerator temperatures, and prepare microbiological media, Ringer’s solution and sterile consumables.
- Support root-cause investigations and corrective actions relating to quality deviations while collaborating with Quality and Production teams.
