I started my dietetic training in 2000 at Stellenbosch University. After graduating cum laude in 2003, I completed my community service year at Barberton Hospital in 2004. During my community service year, I realized that I was eager to study further and enrolled for my Master’s in nutrition degree, which I completed in 2006, focusing on food allergies pediatrics and nutrigenomics.
Thereafter I worked at the Nutritional Information Centre of Stellenbosch University (NICUS) and the Medical Research Council (MRC). After the birth of my son, I started with freelance and consultation work as a part-time lecturing at Stellenbosch University, University of Cape Town, University of the Western Cape and Tiervlei Trial Centre. I enjoy teaching and installing a passion for nutrition and research in students.
During this period, I also worked as a clinical dietician at various private hospitals. Having gained academic, clinical and research experience, I concluded that I am ready for the next step in my career and enrolled for a dual PhD in Nutritional Sciences at Stellenbosch University and University of Amsterdam. My PhD focused on the role of a multi-strain probiotic in preterm neonates.
I am due to graduate end 2023.
As per the quote of Michel Legrand: “The more I live, the more I learn. The more I learn, the more I realize, the less I know,” I endeavour to stay up to date and enrol regularly for courses and participate in conferences to enhance my knowledge. In 2022 I completed my certificate in diabetes care. Everyday is a new opportunity to learn something new and to share this knowledge to others.
