I am a passionate Food Scientist looking to expand my knowledge of the food industry.
Throughout the last four years, I have worked towards the successful implementation of numerous Food Safety and Customer standards within the Spice industry, taking a leading role in these audits. This has been a great experience for me, as it has developed my passion for Food Safety systems and compliance.
I look forward to developing this passion, and expanding my knowledge in various industries.
I am currently employed as a QA Systems Lead at Cape Herb &
• Spice (Spices and Gifting &
• Groceries divisions) within their Quality Assurance (QA) department. In this role, my focus has been to monitor the factory standards and take any interventions necessary to implement improvements needed, with the ultimate goals of ensuring that the quality and food safety systems in place are adhered to, and ensuring that Cape Herb &
• Spice successfully passes audits (i.e. BRCGS, IFS, various customer audits) and meets the objectives set in the food safety system. In 2022, I acted as a key contact during the successful obtainment of the BRCGS certification for the Gifting &
• Groceries division, whereby a “AA” grade was achieved. I have also been involved in conducting internal audits to ensure that the site complies with the required food safety and customer standards. This experience has developed my understanding of food defense, food safety, auditing, and supervising a team.
In December 2017, I graduated with a BSc in Food Science from Stellenbosch University. In general, this 4-year Food Science degree taught the interactions between food ingredients, the food environment, development of new products, the investigation of food structures, sensory and nutritional properties, the postharvest handling and preservation of food in an environmentally and economically acceptable manner, as well as the commercialisation of traditional food products.
