About
I am a resourceful, passionate and energetic teacher with a specialization in the English language and literature.
I have a big interest in writing and analysing stories.
I like to make lessons fun, interactive and engaging. I always try to relate aspects of what we are learning to scenarios that we may encounter in real-life.
I can help you if you are struggling with English and wish to improve, or if you are seeking to push that extra bit to get that A. I can show you how to improve your work and give you tips about writing that would help in all your studies.
Experience
I tutored English literature at the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Howard College for 2.5 years, aiding several students in improving their grades and making some friends along the way. I also learned a lot more about literature through deep diving into the work in order to best teach it. Some of the works I went over include writings from Shakespear, William Blake, T.S. Elliot, Virginia Woolf, J.M. Coetzee, Zakes Mda and others.
I worked at the University of Durban Technology in 2021, teaching a cornerstone module that aimed at empowering students with the knowledge to conduct research, improve their writing and analytical skills and understand important ethical concepts.
I am now at the University of the Western Cape, completing an MA and teaching classes at the university's English department.
Education
I completed my BA degree with one of my majors being English, at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
I then completed an honours degree in English literature the following year, which was more critically focused and in-depth.
I completed a TEFL course from i-to-i.com, having done an online examination and successfully progressing through a workshop assessment that was organized by the U.K. teachers in South Africa.
