I was introduced to Building Construction as a Contracts Administrator. I have been responsible for measuring payment certificates, planning daily activities, costing, and daily reports. I was responsible for the supervision of the work and for all quality management on site, control of documents and records, management of quality control inspections, coordination of all site activities with claims for the extensions of time and administration of all required contractual documents.

I took part in the pricing of tender documents and building of estimates, attendance of site inspections, and general office administration. I was also responsible for the supervision and payment of the sub-contractors.

I adjusted from the office environment to a construction environment where my strength of character was measured with handling social issues with foremen and laborers while maintaining professional status and gaining experience at the same time. I was introduced to the world of Civil Construction as a Technician. I was involved in a lot of structural works where I worked side by side with foremen and site agents.

I was later moved into costing, daily site diaries, and had to make sure necessary resources were available to carry out the scope of works by liaising with the foremen, site agent, and the buyer. Later on, I was involved in the construction of Warwick Viaduct inbound, where I was responsible for the supervision of the works, including sub-contractors and making their payments. I also had to make sure the work was completed on time and within the budget.

I quantified for claim certificates, keeping records of all additions and omissions to the project. I was involved in a Quality Management system.

Junior Quantity Surveyor - Makhoba Volbrecht Associates

(2007-11 - 2008-03)

I had to adjust from a tertiary environment to an office environment and practice what I had learnt at tertiary.

• I worked closely with the Professional QS, measuring from drawings for tender purposes
• I was also exposed to measuring on-site for the compilation of progress payment certificates
• I was involved in general office administration and site visits, including the compilation of tender documents
• Liaising with the contractors on site and the professional team on the budget and variations to the original scope of work
