I'm Kwazi mathe (26) I am a farmer 👩🏾‍🌾and the founder of Lomathenisi mixed veg Farming🍅. I was born and bred in the Kwazulu-Natal province.

I grew up in deep rural at KZN Ogengele village , where it is normal to plough in the open fields. Growing up, it was the norm to go to the fields and plow🔥. It was how we got food—by planting and harvesting our own food.

With the high rate of unemployment in South Africa and how expensive food has become, I felt that i must encourage young people in my community to practice farming for food insecurity. I produce vegetable: Potatoes, spinach, sweet potatoes and butternut.

To young people who want to start farming, I want to say, Don't be afraid to start small; use what you have and do research on the type of farming you want to start. Read books about farming📕, read books , read newsletters📰, , go to college if you can🏫, take short courses, and most importantly, apply that knowledge practically at your farm. You will not be good at something by relying on verbal information. Put more effort into learning.
