I am an attorney in private practice and have been for the last 18 years. I operate my own firm under the name and style of Burmeister Vickers Attorneys. I am a Notary Public and a business rescue practitioner. My current field is civil (all aspects) and family litigation (High And Magistrates Court). I am a skilled drafter of both contracts and pleadings and I am looking for employment in the Cape. I am eager to explore any opportunity. Available on a months notice.
I have been in private practice for 18 years.
I have successfully run and managed my own firm for the last 8 years and have completed the PMT courses in order to operate for my own account. I have a Bachelor of Social Science Degree with a triple major in Psychology, Sociology and Law (cum laude). I also have an Honors degree in Psychology and a LLB degree, both of which I graduated cum laude. I have an advanced certificate in Business Rescue and I am admitted to practice in the High Court. I was admitted as a Notary public in 2013. I have attended a variety of courses on construction contracts and have a keen interest on commercial law.
I have experience in all area's of the law (see detailed CV) and I am a results driven individual. I am well spoken and attend to all of my own trials, rarely ever instructing Counsel or sending candidate attorneys to attend to any of my matters in Court. I am always willing to attend to trials on behalf of colleagues as well and I am often instructed by colleagues to draft papers or to attend to arguments on their behalf simply because there seems to be a lack of experienced attorneys who are actually willing to argue matters in Court (key board warriors if you will).
My experience ranges from Public law, which I did exclusively on a wide scale at Smith Tabata Inc, civil law (delictual and contractual disputes in both the High and Magistrates Courts), which I have engaged in throughout my career and family law. My unique qualifications unfortunately make me particularly suitable for the family law and mediation arena and I am able to counsel and negotiate with all kinds of people effectively.
I do not deal with estates, nor do I deal with conveyancing but I do deal with property law in general (particularly notarial deeds). I have only 3 years of experience in Criminal law but I am interested and always eager to delve into this area if given the opportunity. Unfortunately, save for a 6 month stint with the late Advocate Terry Price and 3 criminal trails run on my own, I have not had an opportunity to pursue this path yet.
I completed the advanced short course in business rescue through UNISA in 2013 and I am well versed in Company law, the National Credit Act and debt collections. I am always on top of new legislation and I make it a personal goal to master it and any loopholes that may exist before my peers. I also have experience in Construction contractual disputes and JBCC contracts and I spent a good year attending seminars and negotiating my way through construction law when I first ventured out on my own.
My children are teenagers and do not require me as much as they in primary school and I am free now to pursue new opportunities, whatever they may be.
