Samuel Metiso

Construction manager with 9+ years of specialized experience in construction management, quantity survey and building maintenance works in residential and commercial houses across South Africa. I am currently serving as Technical Manager at Thoka Geosciences, leading multidisciplinary construction teams, managing the company's property maintenance team, appointing and managing the company's construction contractors, assisting and mentoring junior professionals within the company. My responsibility is to appoint contractors and manager all their works from start to finish.

I am also responsible for accessing existing house and develop project scope, taking measurement from drawing to prepare BOQ for the contractors and take measurements for work done for payment purposes. I am also responsible for sourcing quotations from suppliers, do the evaluation and do material procurement. I am also responsibly for the company property maintenance team, allocating jobs and making a follow up on the given task until the closing stage of the job card.

I also interact with tenants arranging for access for the maintenance team to execute their work. In complicated maintenance work I am required to go to site and do some investigation and come with a solution including updating my director by drafting some reports and sending pictures. I am responsible for quality control for all construction works taking place at the company by doing work inspections for the approval of the work done by the contractors and the maintenance team.

Designing variations on existing houses and taking measurements of new developments, preparing project scope and BOQ, appointing contractors to execute the work. Coordinating various contractors for the new projects including project tracking and reporting to my seniors. I am managing various construction sites where multiple contractors operate.

I am responsible for sourcing quotations, doing evaluation and procuring materials for various contractors. I am also responsible for quality checks during work execution and doing work inspections for work done for approval (I do construction management and quantity survey tasks simultaneously). I am also responsibly for verifying contractors claims by remeasuring work done.

I am also responsible for all maintenance works for all the company's properties. All maintenance issues are reported to me and I them make job cards for the maintenance team and make sure the work is done as required. I interact with various caretakers from the various company properties to arrange for access for our maintenance team.

I am also assisting junior employees in executing their jobs.

Working with Private clients assisting them with maintenance works from having project meetings for getting the project scope to taking measurement for the development of a BOQ, making quotations and submitting to clients up to getting appointed and executing the works. Getting reasonable material suppliers who has quality material for projects and doing material inspection for quality purposes. Responsible for storing materials at the suitable storage.

Working with contractors is my daily duty since I started working, so from 2019 to date I have been full time working with contractors on the company's properties. Responsible for the issuing of material to various site and various contractors. Doing work inspection for the various contractors such and Builders, Plumbers, Electricians, Welders, Painters, Carpenters, Pavers, tillers and others.

Preparing weekly and monthly progress reports to submit to top management. Ensuring that contractors comply with health and safety regulation during their work execution. I also responsible for quality assurance.

Preparing project scope and bill of quantities, receiving quotations from contractors and doing evaluation, monitoring contractor's work in progress. Attending project progress meeting, preparing meeting minutes, managing contractors and preparing progress reports and update my line manager, doing inspections for work done and doing sign off. I left the department because I got a job at Thoka geosciences.

Site supervisor where I was overseeing all the contractors on site and receiving material for storage, assisting In setting out a building, developing quantities for material ordering, receiving invoices and delivery note for filing, daily monitoring of work done against planned programme, weekly programme planning and monitoring work done. Daily recording of work done and updating top management. I left the company because I had to go back to class.
