Worked as Acting Planner from 2000 to 2005. Acting Team Leader / Foreman / Maintenance Coordinator from 01 January 2006 to 31 March 2009. Company closed down.

• Reconditioned and installed rotary equipment, including reduction, Sew, Lightening, Radicon and motorized gearboxes, RHU and RHV gearboxes, centrifugal, multi-stage, diaphragm, Bradel and Momo pumps, and vacuum pumps.
• Overhauled and replaced valves; maintained hydraulic filter presses, ball and hammer mills, crushers, compressors, boilers, turbines, H.P pressure vessels, furnaces, high temperature driers, belt, screw, slat and Redlar conveyors, bucket and chain elevators, strapping machines, glue machines, cutters, labeling machines, high-speed packing and wrapping machines, palletizers, and bag/crate turners.
• Worked with magnetic acid pumps, acid PTFE ball and lead plug valves, acid flow meters, and acid pipelines with lead-covered flanges.
• Performed corrective and preventative maintenance, condition monitoring, breakdown coordination, prioritization based on production demands, and root cause analysis (RCA).
• Worked with risk assessments, isolation procedures, full PVC acid suits, BA sets, working at heights, basic welding, gas cutting, scaffolding erection, and rigging.
• Connected and disconnected motors (only 220vlots), tested motors for earth faults, performed cable fault finding, reset overloads, and changed motor bearings.
• Planned shutdowns and services, scheduled work, arranged quotations and order numbers, planned labour, ordered spares according to drawings and design, coordinated with Production Managers and area Engineers, commissioned after shutdowns, completed postmortems, maintained preventative maintenance priorities, managed costs within agreed budgets, and rescheduled outstanding tasks.
• Worked as safety representative, first aider, and fire fighter for workshops; won safety rep of the year in 1997 and 1998.
• Coordinated daily breakdowns and prioritized jobs as urgent, long term, short term, L1 or L2; coordinated preventative maintenance and continuous improvement.
• Supervised and motivated the L1 area team; liaised with Planners, Process, contractors, and Engineering teams; attended production, planning, and safety meetings.
• Managed a budget of 100k per month and supervised 2 fitters, 2 handymen, 2 apprentices, 1 boilermaker and his assistance, and 1 plastician and his assistance.
• Used SAP daily; aware of the OHS act, OHSAS 18000, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, HACCP (FMCG only), risk assessment, 5 S`s, 5 WHYS, and RCA.

• Worked in offloading, storage, manufacturing, and dispatch departments.
• Maintained Redlar, belt, slat, and screw conveyors; aligned head and tail pulleys and idlers; maintained bucket elevators, reactors, mixers, pedal agitators, hammer mills, fans, rotary valves, blowers, dust extraction systems, driers, mono, centrifugal, positive displacement, air diaphragm and multi-stage pumps, tank agitators, gearboxes, and motors.
• Laid pipework and cut threads on a Rigid threading machine; worked with simplex drive chain; pressed bearings and gears; replaced duplex chains and sprockets.

Shift Mechanical Fitter - AMCOR FLEXIBLE / NAMPAK FLEXIBLE - 88 Wilshire Road, Pinetown

(2013-08 - 2021-09)

Printing and Packaging. Worked closely with production foremen and operators to achieve high quality and high production targets. The facility was looted on 13 July 2021 and burnt to the ground; employees were retrenched.

• Carried out planned maintenance as scheduled when on shift.
• Installed and commissioned 8 and 10 Colour Printers, W and H, Bobots, FlexO and Gravure, laminating, extruding, and slitting machines.
• Worked on other projects that added value to the business.

Shift Fitter - UPL open Ag.

International Chemical manufacturing company.

• Maintained digesters and associated utilities (steam, acid, raw material, and baskets into the digester), feeding and pumping out of digesters, and digester safety devices.
• Worked on scrubbers and extractor systems, reactors, mixers, bucket elevators, Sulzer cooling towers, heat exchangers, auger screw conveyors, sifters, screw, belt and aero conveyors, mill classifiers, and rotary blade valves.
• Worked on Thomson boilers, Sasol gas line inspection, fans, mills, screw compressors (7 and 20 bars), dust extraction systems, Saunders and acid ball PTFE valves, acid pipes, and steam valves.
• Maintained mono pumps, Air Wilden diaphragm pumps, centrifugal pumps, Bredal hose pumps, multi-stage pumps, Sulzer steam traps, pressure relief valves, pressure vessels, and lifting equipment.
• Maintained automated pneumatic Sigma / Pro Fill packing lines, slat conveyors, weight control and induction heat sealers, hydraulic compactors and crushers, chillers, boilers, water separators, and cooling towers.
• Replaced bearings and sprockets; worked on parallel and tapered bores; maintained, aligned, tracked, and tensioned belt conveyors and drive belts; replaced idlers and head and tail pulleys, including solid, rib, lagged drive, and non-drive pulleys.
• Carried out maintenance on engineering equipment, lubricated rotary equipment, and ordered critical spares.
• Closed notifications and work orders on SAP (PM); followed isolation procedures and risk assessments; gave feedback to relevant section supervisors; trained apprentices; applied 5 whys and 5`s on every task.
• Completed risk assessments for hot and cold work permits and vessel entry permits; used gas testing monitors and lifelines and served as watchman outside vessels.
