I hold a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Human Life Sciences degree as well as an Honours in Plant Biotechnology degree.
I am a dedicated and hardworking individual who will always be the first to assist in solving a problem. I love to work with people and therefore, tend to thrive in a social setting. Advancing in my career path, I would love to learn as much as possible and link my interest in science with my passion for people.
I worked for a life sciences recruitment company for 1.5 years where the main function was to:
Support the research in finding highly skilled professionals with niche talents to fuel the advancement of the life sciences industry. My soft skills are developing immensely as I engage with European professionals on a day-to-day basis. The use of industry knowledge and global networks aids this research process.
After 9 months in the company, I moved on to a more senior position as mentoring and coaching younger research associates became a part an additional part of my role.
I completed an undergraduate degree in human life sciences where I majored in Physiology and Genetics from the University of Stellenbosch. I'd say that Physiology was probably my favorite subject as I enjoyed the human aspect of it.
I then moved on to complete my honors in plant biotechnology with the aim of getting some minor laboratory experience, which I did in the last 6 months of the year whilst completing my research project. I received a 68% aggregate for my research paper, where I examined seawater samples from the Southern Ocean for microbes with potential biotechnological importance
