I have been fortunate to be able to acquire the competencies required in a engineering environment where logic thinking & mathematical skills are key requirements. I have a solid understanding of the technical requirements of machine setting and production. As part of my responsibilities, I have consistently reviewed blueprints, drawings, and manuals to ensure that I understand the specifications and requirements of each job.

I take pride in meticulously planning the necessary actions to complete tasks, setting up tooling and machines according to the job requirements, and monitoring production closely to maintain high standards. Over the years, I have gained experience in troubleshooting and fault finding, and I am often the first point of contact for colleagues in need of assistance. I am highly skilled in using a variety of measuring instruments to ensure precision in my work, and I am well-versed in performing inspections, both during and after production, to ensure that all parts meet quality specifications.

My experience and the training I have acquired have equipped me with the expertise needed to operate and set various machines, such as CNC turning, milling and grinding machines, as well as service and lumsden grinders. Additionally, I am accustomed to maintaining a clean and safe work environment, adhering to safety protocols, and managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines and production goals. CNC Machine Setter and Operator - Gear Pump Manufacturing - Cape Town, South Africa

• Review drawings, blueprints or manuals to understand specifications of output
• Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of the job
• Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping
• Set-up tooling specific to the job and the machine
• Set the machine according to setting instructions in the work centre manual, run off part and complete inspection
• Clock-up workpiece and fixtures if needed
• Record production findings on first-off inspection sheet in the data pack
• Use an alternate method of measurement to verify the findings above to ensure that the measuring instrument/s is read correctly
• Should the first off inspection be out of specification, correct out of specification dimensions and re-run a first off sample and inspect
• Submit the first off sample for verification at the first off inspection area
• Once the first off inspection has been completed and accepted, hand the machine over to the operator to continue to run production
• If there is another machine that requires setting, move over to that machine, else operate a machine until more setting is required
• Select appropriate machines and position or load material for a job
• Determine and program size of batches, speed of machine etc
• Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issues
• Take measurements of output to ensure consistency with specifications and identify defect parts
• Plot run charts, including reject part dimensions so that trends can be analysed correctly
• Keep records of approved and defective parts
• Before the start of the next job when about 2 full table loads of the current job remain to be machined, I will prepare for the next job to be set
• At the start of a shift inspect the machine and work area for safety, cleanliness and spillages and complete the required documentation OHS-Doc 1016 Daily machine check list and SHEQ 1146 Daily gauging check list
• At shift change over, inspect the last parts machined by the previous shift in the presence of that employee
• If out of spec parts are found, alert the supervisors immediately so that action can be taken
• Ensure that all measuring equipment is in a state of calibration prior to proceeding with production
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed
• Assisting fellow employees with fault finding during normal operations, first port of call.
