Change Management: Quantity Surveyor at Mitsubishi Hitachi Power System Africa (2016-04 – 2022-06)
As a Backcharge Quantity Surveyor – My responsibilities were claims recovery, contracts and commercial management. My role was to drive cost recoveries from third parties that defaulted because of damages, defective works, failure to meet contractual obligations, etc. This largely involved working closely with engineers, project management and contracts managers to investigate liability capture and analyse all quantitative data such as bills of quantities, contracts, Interim Payment Certificate (IPC) to bring about a final claim.
- Drive cost recoveries that were due to the client from third parties Subcontractors.
- Issuing of contractual correspondence to Subcontractors (i.e. 2.5- Notice to recover, 7.5 – Notice of Rejection of works and 15.1 – Notice to correct), contract administration for assigned subcontractor, using contractual clauses to evaluate mitigate and determine claims against the assigned subcontractors.
- Subcontractor management, which included preparing monthly payment certificates (IPC), guiding site management in complying with all contract requirements, rates build-up and assessment of quotations.
- Commercial management which included issuing contractual notices in line with contract requirements, management of Variation Orders & Site Instruction and performing the contract according to the FIDIC book of contract.
- Contract management, which included ensuring management of contract change cost, preparation of Variation orders & Purchase orders.
- Prepare monthly Subcontractor cost report; liaise with the change manager in undertaking financial reporting and monitoring of overall subcontractor working capital.
- Cooperating with the site technical team and action commercial related issues, hold weekly progress meeting with Subcontractors and analyse contract conditions and negotiate contract and claim details.
- Working closely with Senior Quantity Surveyor to Identify, monitor and implement changes to scope of works for the assigned Subcontractor and their cost implication.
- Working closely with the commercial department to prepare and finalize final certificates.
- Ensure the Cost Controller has captured and invoiced the Subcontractor as payment certificate.
Graduate Development: Candidate Quantity Surveyor at Grinaker-LTA (Now Aveng) (2014-01 – 2015-12)
As a candidate Quantity Surveyor my responsibilities were preparation of structural steel re-measures and taking them through the relevant channels for approval and record keeping. Work under supervision of a Quantity Surveyor when conducting site checks and measurements.
