I am Siyabonga Gilman and I have just graduated from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology with Internal Auditing as my major. My education at this institution has provided me with an extensive background in the areas of risk management, financial controls, compliance, and audit methodology. I now understand the significance of internal auditing in ensuring efficiency and integrity in organizations.
I have concentrated on acquiring technical and analytical skills that are expected of internal audit professionals such as assessment of internal controls, identification of risk exposure and understanding of the corporate governance framework. However, one cannot overlook the soft skills that go hand in hand with technical and analytical skills. Communication and attention to detail among others are crucial because much of the auditor's job involves communicating results to non-auditors.
