I have 28 years of experience as an educational psychologist in a range of contexts, including in primary, secondary and tertiary education, private practice, and the NGO sector with children, adolescents and adults conducting therapy and psychological assessment. I work systemically as far as possible. I am married and have a 14 year old son.
I qualified as an educational psychologist in 1995. I initially worked full-time in private practice in association with a clinical psychologist for just over a year, then became employed as school psychologist at a specialised school where I worked for 2 years and continued with private work part-time. I then moved to work full-time in a private practice with a counselling psychologist for 2 years conducting psychotherapy and psychological assessments.
I was then employed for three and a half years at a Non-government organisation working in an informal settlement community with children and their parents. I transitioned to work as a psychologist in the Student Counselling Centre at Durban University of Technology for five and a half years. While working in this position, I lectured Psychology Honours modules part-time (evenings) at another tertiary institution.
I continued with this part-time evening lecturing for 9 years. I left my employ at DUT and supervised a BPsych programme for registered counsellor interns and lectured Psychology Honours modules at the institution for 2 years. I worked in private practice until 2017, then took a position as a school psychologist at a private all girls' school where I worked as the psychologist for just under four and a half years.
I have more recently in the last year and a half worked in a group private practice.
I have an Honours and Masters degree in Psychology and am currently reading for a Doctor of Psychology in Child and Adolescent Psychology at the University of the Free State.
