Tayla Shan Solomon

I'm Tayla. I'm an illustrator and designer currently hanging out in the animation industry. I'm passionate about brands, storytelling and anything a little offbeat - a little whimsically wacky!

I have quite an eclectic taste. My range is reflected in my two favourite kinds of projects - those that are playful, quirky and filled with wonder, and those that are moody and emotive. It’s this range in interests that keeps me exploring and experimenting to find interesting ways of expressing identities and concepts.

Finding the perfect approach to expressing a concept is my happy place. It’s like solving a puzzle - what tools and techniques will convey the message in a way that people can connect with? How can I take the client’s message and bring it to life? I love a good challenge and with 3 years industry experience, I’m all about nailing the brief to produce something with meticulous attention to detail and quality!

After receiving my Master of Fine Arts, I did some freelance design and illustration work along with a part time job tutoring. I then got a job at an explainer video company where I am now an associate designer for motion. I have been working in this role for the last two and a half years.

My role includes storyboarding and designing graphics and illustrations that will be used in animations. I have lead the design of several projects and am also currently exploring art direction within this role.

I have a Master of Fine Arts from Rhodes University. The practical component of my degree was writing, illustrating and producing a graphic novel.
