Washcoat Operator - Umicore Catalyst South Africa - Port Elizabeth

Umicore manufactures chemicals used to coat the substrates used in vehicle catalytic converters. Report to Rosco Frost, Superintendent.

• Verify and clean all instruments and scales
• Utilise JDE software system for creating job cards
• Adhere to the line production schedule and prepare the washcoat accordingly
• Order and receive raw materials using SAP
• If the washcoat requires precious metals, send an email to Precious Metal Department to order
• Add chemicals to recipe using ACOS, check if there are any problems and download via ACOS to the HMI
• Create the batch book
• Follow the batch ticket/HMI steps on mixing washcoat at the mixing tank
• Monitor washcoat (mixed chemicals) while adding. Clean mix tank and record details of washcoat in the batch book
• Once complete, take samples, check the mass balance, then book samples on Labvantage and take to lab
• Book tank to storage area with SAP
• Monitor results from lab and take a resample if not satisfactory. Send results to the Engineering Department
• If satisfactory, release to the next department (Inventory) and transfer and release to Inventory via SAP
• Should the samples fail, Engineering provides the percentage of adjustments. Calculate the new mix using Excel
• Organize stock in the most efficient way using forklifts, reach trucks or pallet jacks
• Adjust the washcoat with additives to meet the Engineering specifications, until the washcoat is ready for coating production. Record details in the Excel database
• Follow up if any chemicals need further adjustment (e.g. problems with washcoat on the line)
