- JSA/TBT: Do Job Safety Analysis + Tool Box Talk. Cover steam release, burns, asbestos from old insulation, falling objects
- Energy Isolation/LOTO: Verify V1 line is fully isolated, drained, depressurized, cooled <50°C. Lock out steam, condensate, vent valves. Double block & bleed
- Atmosphere testing: If line enters confined space/pan, test O2 >19.5%, no steam/hot spots
- PPE check: Heat-resistant gloves face shield, apron, safety shoes, helmet, and goggles. Add respirator if removing old lagging/asbestos
- Insulation removal: Ensure wetting method + disposal as per hazardous waste rules if asbestos/old ceramic fibre is present
- Cutting/Welding: Fire watch + extinguishers/foam/DCP near pan floor. Remove combustibles. Check hot work area 10m radius
- Height safety: Guardrails, safety nets, full body harness + double lanyard for work >1.8m on pan structure
- Steam trap/condensate lines: Confirm they are also isolated. V1 lines hold condensate that can flash
- Material check: Verify new pipe, flanges, gaskets are rated for V1 line temp/pressure - usually 110-120°C saturated steam
- Welding quality: Ensure welders are qualified, WPS followed, NDT done before boxing up. No leaks = no blowouts later
- Hydro test/Pneumatic test: Witness test at 1.5x design pressure. Barricade area during testing
- Insulation: Check new insulation is dry. Wet insulation on hot V1 line causes corrosion + steam bursts
- Final inspection: All bolts torqued, supports welded, expansion loops/bellows installed correctly for thermal growth
- Line walk: Remove all tools, scaffolding, and debris. Confirm no isolation blinds left inside
- Steam blowing: If required, barricade + warning sirens. Nobody in line of sight during blow
- Hand over: Close PTW only after operator confirms line is leak-free at low pressure first
