I am Thando Hlongwa I am an alumni at the University of Johannesburg and obtained a BA Strategic Communications and Corporate Communications qualification. I am a Public Relations officer with close to 2 years experience working in an agency. Media relations is what I excel at and have built relationships with the media across South Africa. I am a fast learner, adaptable and always looking for growth opportunities.

My experience in the public relations industry has equipped me with a deep understanding of the client’s unique challenges and complexities. In my current position as a Public Relations Officer, I work on client relationship management and media engagements. Research, compile, and analyze data to identify trends and growth opportunities. Compiling monthly reports and networking to gain new business prospects. Assisting clients in staying current/relevant with industry trends as well as competitors.

During my time at Meropa Communications a reputable public relations agency, I had the opportunity to gain practical experience in the public relations industry. As an intern, I was involved in media list building and doing media briefings. Account management status reports that needed to be developed. Client relationship management assisting and keeping client alert on media news. Responsible for writing wealth newsletters for clients. Started to write a listicle. Monitoring of news clips. Liaising with clients. Attend client meetings and be part of the brand campaign launch. Media engagement pitch, positions interviews, and places coverage when a press release has been distributed. News analysis for the week ahead and compile relevant information on a document. Event coordination when required by the client.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Strategic Communications and Corporate Communications from the University of Johannesburg. Throughout my academic journey, I developed a solid foundation in communications strategies, different kinds of communication scopes, and written communication skills. I am adept at applying analytical skills to identify trends, make informed decisions, and provide valuable insights to drive business growth.
