I am a qualified Veterinary Technologist, which gave me the opportunity to gain more than 12 years of working experience in a diagnostic laboratory environment in production animals. This experience includes more than 7 years as a technical signatory for ISO17025-accredited methods within the laboratory.
I am currently employed as a Veterinary Technologist at the Western Cape Provincial Veterinary Laboratory and responsible for the Serology section. Over the years I have gained extensive experience in other diagnostic laboratory sections, not only performing diagnostic testing but overseeing all managing aspects of the laboratory. These include quality management, equipment maintenance, ensuring traceability, documentation, participating in proficiency/inter-laboratory testing, validation, procurement (checking of orders and invoices), statistical reporting, and training of personnel.
I have also experience in results interpretation and reporting, by using instrument software, IDEXX XCheck software, Microsoft Office, and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
In my free time, I am also fulfill the role of Treasurer for a non-profit organization, the South African Association of Veterinary Technologists (SAAVT), which has a passion for its members in ensuring its members get the required knowledge in their profession. My role as a treasurer includes making payments to goods and services procured for the association, making profiles for new members, marketing in recruiting new members, creating invoices, and ensuring the finances are handled meticulously for their sole purpose and avoiding wasteful expenditure.
