• Planning transport schedules and timetables, based on confirmed or estimated numbers or quantities of people or goods.
• Managing costs and budgets, usually using analytical software, to help ensure the profitability of the business.
• Resource management - ensuring that there are adequate staff and vehicles to meet demand.
• Confirming that timetables and schedules are adhered to.
• Ensuring that all relevant legislation is complied with. This will include the safety of both vehicles and people, emissions, weight and any customs liabilities.
• Checking that all documentation is completed and recorded correctly.
• Liaising with clients and suppliers, to ensure the most efficient service.
• Planning for and handling unpredictable circumstances, such as strikes, congestion, accidents, extreme weather, breakdowns and sickness.
• Managing depots, offices and/or people.
