Tony Mallam

I combine the professional qualification and skills of a CA(SA), with the broad experience of my career, covering corporate, entrepreneurial, and consulting. I have deep experience in multiple industries, including media, technology, renewables, biotech and general industry. I have built, led and managed teams of people, Boards of Directors and shareholders.

I am strongly analytical, knowledgeable, and constantly curious. As long as I love what I do, I give it my everything. According to a Firstmind assessment I did recently, I am a strategic thinker, taking responsibility for everything I do.

I have a strong work ethic, and I am an expert project manager. I am definitely a people person, but at the same time get respect and results from my team.

A qualified Chartered Accountant (SA), my career has spanned corporate and start-up sectors. In my earlier career, I spent much of my time in media, specifically radio, before becoming an angel investor and VC advisor. More recently I have been focusing on the Fintech sector, including my current position of MD at Upnup.

I qualified as a CA(SA), after graduating from Wits University with a Bcomm and BAcc. I articled with Arthur Andersen, and passed the Board exam on my 1st attempt. I have done various short courses since then, including one at Notre Dame University, and was also a certified Xero advisor.
