Ulane Albrecht

Ulane is a young and driven Environmental Consultant, with experience in environmental impact assessments, rehabilitation, mining, engineering, and construction focused projects. She greatly enjoys the challenges of the mining industry, and can be described as a powerhouse and self-starter. She is developing a career in the Environmental and Mining industry, while mastering skills in environmental management, environmental legal compliance, project management and mining operations.

My working experience started in 2020, at an engineering and construction company in the oil and gas sector. There my work duties included environmental site assessments, management of ECOs, soil remediation, site-decommissioning activities, EIA facilitation, compiling the environmental legal register and ensuring compliance. Furthermore I established and improved their ISO 14001 system and HSE compliance. After looking for a more challenging role, I moved to an environmental engineering company in the mining sector. This has by far been my position with the most growth. Here I have greatly enriched my skills in environmental impact assessments, understanding mining operations and providing technical expertise. I have assisted with international mining projects in Southern Africa, dealing with foreign mining and environmental legislation and permitting, managed specialist teams, continuously collaborated with engineering and geology departments, gained knowledge of IFC Performance Standards and World Bank Guidelines and mastered technical report writing.

In 2018 I completed my BSc degree in Environmental Science, providing the foundation for my education. I then went on to do my honnours degree in Environmental Engineering (applied science), and finished with a MSc degree in Water Resource Management in 2021. Since then, I have continuously strived to improve my knowledge and skills, by taking short courses, including Environmental Legal Compliance and Mining. I have also obtained by EAPASA and SACNASP registrations.
