Lecturer at Durban Horizons Academy (2025-02 – Present)
Junior Lecturer - N4, N5 & N6 Tourism, TVET College. In South African TVET colleges, N4-N6 Tourism is part of the National Certificate: Tourism program under DHET. A junior lecturer usually reports to a Head of Department and focuses on teaching + admin at entry level.
- Deliver classroom instruction for N4, N5, N6 Tourism subjects. Common modules include: Travel Office Procedures, Tourist Destinations, Tourism Communications, Tourism Marketing, Customer Care, etc.
- Prepare lesson plans, presentations, and teaching aids aligned to DHET curriculum and assessment guidelines
- Facilitate practical and simulated activities e.g. mock travel agency, GDS booking systems, itinerary planning
- Use various teaching methods to cater to different learning styles: lectures, group work, role-plays, case studies
- Maintain student attendance and punctuality records
- Set, moderate, and mark tests, assignments, and internal exams according to DHET ICASS requirements
- Conduct POE / Portfolio of Evidence assessments and ensure students meet competency standards
- Capture marks on the college system and submit to exams office before deadlines
- Provide feedback to students and do academic support/remedial classes for at-risk students
- Invigilate internal and external DHET exams when required
- Ensure coverage of the syllabus within the trimester/semester timeframe
- Develop and update learning materials to stay current with tourism industry trends
- Participate in departmental meetings, moderation, and quality assurance processes
- Keep up with DHET circulars and QCTO requirements for Tourism N4-N6
- Mentor students on career paths in tourism: travel agencies, tour operations, airlines, hospitality

- Sweep/mop floors, dust desks, chairs, shelves, and window sills. Empty bins.
