Alan’s 36 years’ experience in the aviation industry has been exceptionally wide ranging. After a master’s degree in engineering from Cranfield University and 2 years with BAE as a design engineer he joined the Royal Navy.
After graduation from Britannia Royal Naval College, he was certified as a Royal Naval Air Engineering Officer in 1988. After operational leadership in helicopter squadrons, he was quickly moved in the future projects and experimental flying. His service career transformed when he was first involved in the Operational Excellence/CI transformation of aircraft maintenance saving £1.6B.
This quickly led to further service Operational Excellence transformation to operations and across the Royal Navy in the UK.
Leaving the service in 2005 he was quickly recognised as someone who could deliver Operational Excellence/CI based transformation results anywhere and was in high demand across Europe. Notably with some of the earliest Operational Excellence work in UK health. This work was noticed by the head of the new UAE maintenance organisation AMMROC.
After 4 years transforming quality, safety and performance in AMMROC his work was noticed outside aviation in the UAE (i.e., Sheikh Khalifa Medical City) n the UAE.
Returning to Europe in 2016 he was asked by the CEO of Iberia Airlines to support performance transformation in Spain and South America.
He then returned to the UK to run a National Operational Excellence Programme for the UK NHS (1.3 million staff). The pandemic saw him involved support the build of emergency hospitals; procurement efficiency; testing station design and ventilator manufacture. With digital health central to this strategy.
In 2021 he was asked to return to the UAE to support a growing shared service business. Here he brought digital innovation to delivery of back-office services (e.g., HR, Procurement, Finance, IT, Contact Centre).
