Basma El-Shimy

I am currently a DP/MYP Secondary English teacher and grade-level leader at GEMS World Academy. Previously, I held the same role with Dar Almarefa IB School in Dubai. From 2018 to 2021, I was the ELA and Academic Intervention Coordinator at Ajyal International School Al Falah, an American Curriculum school in Abu Dhabi.

About my educational background, I’m graduating this April from my second M.A. in Education Leadership and Management from Middlesex University in Dubai. My first Master’s degree is in English language and literature from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. I also have a CELTA qualification from Florence, Italy.

My current IELTS score is 8, and I have a near-native English language proficiency. Some of my recent professional experiences include being certified from KHDA as a Cycle-3 English language teacher and from ADEK as a Cycle-2 English language teacher. I’m also an IB DP English A examiner with a solid two-year experience teaching both MYP and DP students at Dar Almarefa Private school in Dubai.

Some additional leadership experiences I have are: overseeing Middle School English at Al Maaref Private school in Dubai, founding the English Department at Heliopolis University in Cairo, and leading the English for Science Unit at Zewail University in Cairo. Being a versatile educator with a solid educational and professional background, I’m confident in my ability to become part of your professional community, fostering capacity-building for both students and staff in your esteemed school through exemplary teaching, extracurricular school initiatives, and CPD.
