My working experience as a Federal health adviser (trauma focused) to the Secretary of the Department of (then) Department of Immigration (7 years), CEO of a Torture and Trauma centre and welfare Contract Manager on Nauru with refugees in detention, have all given me strong exposure to the management of health and welfare structures for vulnerable people, particularly within a legislative or legal advice context.
In most of these roles there has been a focus on mental illness arising from trauma. I have been involved in the approaches and activities that address trauma in different ways including; trauma arising from international persecution and displacement; intergenerational trauma; childhood adverse experiences; suicide prevention and postvention and the related traumatic conditions. My formal study in this area is through a certificate in traumatic stress studies and professional development in suicide prevention and interventions, trauma, attachment and neuroscience.
