Md Shareful Hassan

I am an environmental researcher with a strong interest in Natural Resource Management and air pollution. My work focuses on understanding how environmental changes, land use patterns, and human activities influence air quality and ecosystem health. Through the use of geospatial technologies, remote sensing, and data analysis, I aim to generate evidence that supports sustainable resource management and informed environmental policies.

I am passionate about developing science-based solutions that help reduce air pollution, protect natural resources, and promote healthier and more resilient communities.

I have more than 15 years of professional experience in environmental research, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), GIS, and project management within international development organizations. I have been serving as the Team Leader for Planning, Monitoring, and Reporting at UNDP Bangladesh, where I lead program monitoring systems, budgeting, reporting, and evaluation for large-scale development projects. I have previously worked with organizations such as the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC), IFPRI, the World Bank, and DASCOH, where I developed monitoring frameworks, managed spatial and non-spatial databases, conducted research and impact evaluations, and supported evidence-based programming.

I have extensive experience applying GIS, remote sensing, and data analysis to support environmental management, public health initiatives, and sustainable development programs.

I have a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from Jahangirnagar University (2023), where my research focused on the sources, patterns, and health impacts of PM2.5 in Bangladesh. I also hold an M.Sc. in Geodesy and Geoinformatics from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden, where I specialized in GIS, remote sensing, spatial analysis, and satellite positioning. In addition, I completed an M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, where I developed strong foundations in environmental science, GIS, and spatial analysis.

My academic training has equipped me with strong expertise in environmental monitoring, geospatial technologies, and data-driven research.
