Hello, my name is Alana. I am a driven individual looking to pursue a fulfilling career at the intersection of science, health and innovation. I graduated July 2024 with a First Class Honours degree in Biomedical Science from England. I am now seeking dynamic opportunities to apply my skills and make a positive impact.
As a passionate pianist of 19 years, you'll often find me immersed in the world of classical music. I am an avid reader with a diverse taste in literature, two of my favourites being ‘Hamnet’ By Maggie O'Farrell, and ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ by Harper Lee.
In my spare time I enjoy cooking, baking, going to the gym and spending time with friends and family.
I have worked at Tesco for a total of six years, with five years spent in customer service and one year as a Pharmacy Assistant. In my customer service role, I developed strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, assisting customers with inquiries, managing transactions, and ensuring a positive shopping experience. My time as a Pharmacy Assistant allowed me to gain hands-on experience in a healthcare setting, where I supported the pharmacy team with tasks such as checking medication before being given out, managing stock, and providing customer guidance on over-the-counter products.
This role also helped me enhance my attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to handle sensitive information in a professional and efficient manner.
I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science at the University of Essex in England, where I gained a strong foundation in the core principles of biology, chemistry, and medical science. My coursework covered a broad range of topics, including molecular biology, microbiology, human physiology, and pathology. I developed practical laboratory skills, working with advanced techniques such as PCR, ELISA, and cell culture.
Throughout my studies, I also honed my analytical and research skills, learning to critically evaluate scientific data and contribute to meaningful investigations. My time at Essex not only provided me with technical expertise but also sparked my deep interest in pursuing a career in medical research.
