A fourth-year English specialist looking for professional opportunities in publishing, editing, content writing, and/or communications.
I recently finished my undergrad degree at the University of Toronto and am currently looking for my first job, preferably in the publishing industry. Although I do not have professional working experience per se, I have volunteered in communications and writing departments at UofT’s club for women in computer science (WiCS UofT) and the Indian NGO Ritva Foundation.
At WiCS, I serve as the Director of Newsletter. The position requires me to write, edit, and publish the club’s newsletter which mainly includes information about professional and social events organized by the club. As a member of the executive committee, I help organize the club’s events which range from conferences with experts in the industry to pub nights for the students to unwind.
At Ritva Foundation, an NGO founded to spread menstrual health awareness and destigmatize menstruation in India, I worked as a communications and content writing intern wherein I facilitated communication between Ritva and international organizations such as Womankind Worldwide, UN Women, and Amnesty via email and also helped to edit the organization’s social media content.
I also helped a handful of fresh high-school graduates with their applications to universities and, back in India, I tutored students planning to study abroad for IELTS.
I have recently sent a couple of my academic essays for publishing to my university’s English undergraduate journal, IDIOM.
I am a fourth-year student at University of Toronto, St. George set to graduate officially in June 2023; however, as of Fall 2022, I have completed the requirements for my BA Honours degree. I have done a specialist in English, a minor in Sociology, and a minor in Writing & Rhetoric.
