I offer over 19 years of career and volunteer experience in a variety of social service and educational settings. Being a dedicated and reliable team member ,teachers and administrators have found me to be a productive worker. My strengths include excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to recognize and resolve problems, inspire cooperation and develop therapeutic relationships with a diverse clientele. I am organized, eficient, and enthusiastic and am always interested in extending my skill base.
As a supply Educational Resources Worker for Duferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, and with York Catholic District School Boards, and a Child and Youth Worker at Peel Children's Center - Residential I have had the opportunity to support both the educational and socio-emotional needs of the students in my care. By implementing the accommodations and strategies outlined in my students’ Individual Education Plans, I have been able to target specific behaviours and promote a variety of interpersonal skills, support self-regulation, and foster positive behavioural change and growth in the students on my caseload. I have had the opportunity to work with students on the Autism Spectrum managing the classroom. My main focus with these students was to determine the reason for their behaviour through observation and completion of the ABC Chart and the implementation of appropriate reinforcers that promoted desired behaviours. I also provided individual informal counselling, facilitated activities that helped curb behaviours, de-escalated and managed crisis situations, worked collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and support staf, and assisted students in reaching their short and long-term academic, social, and personal goals. I speak Assyrian, Arabic and Greek also which many schools have been lucky to have me as I was able to translate in the same language and support the families.
