Kim Johnson

I am an Indigenous woman, mother of 3 adult children, wife and grandmother. I have a bachelor degree in social work. I am a Sundancer and completed my 4 year commitment and continued to be a helper at the North Thunderbird Lodge for another 6 years. I have also been a helper at the Black Horse Warrior Lodge for 10 years.

I worked hard and obtained a bachelor of Social Work Degree from University of Manitoba in 2002.

In my professional career I have worked with pregnant and parenting youth, child and family services. I have also worked with Individuals with co-ocurring disorders of mental health issues and addictions. And I have worked with individuals that had come into conflict with the law to take accountability for their actions and work towards changed behavior.

I consider myself to be a life long learner. I enjoy learning new things and have attended many workshops, seminars and conferences. I have received a certificate from the University of Wilfred Laurier University in the Gladue Principles: Indigenous Peoples and the Canadian Criminal Justice System in April 2023.

I was enrolled in the MSW-IK Program at the University of Manitoba and completed the academic courses and the Elder led courses, I did not complete the research project portion.

I have a bachelor of Social Work Degree from the University of Manitoba.
