My name is Michael Su, and I am a recent graduate of Langara’s journalism program. Despite studying and working with 3D animation, I have always been passionate about content writing. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the essential role of news media, which has inspired me to pursue my passion.
As a journalist, I am confident in my investigative and communication skills. I enjoy listening to other people’s stories and thoughts, researching, and asking probing questions to create compelling news writing. I am also familiar with many social media platforms and video editing tools.
During my internship with Richmond News, I focus on expanding my connection and sources with the Chinese community for sources. Aside from the press releases and Twitter feeds, I would actively monitor other social media platforms such as Vansky or XiaoHongShu for potential stories.
While at Langara College, I sharpened my skills in crafting engaging news content and received good feedback from the course instructors. During my role as a student journalist and editor, I have received “Best Individual Podcast Segment”, “Best Investigative Story,” and “Best Web Editor” rewards. I am also a recipient of the Rob Dykstra Scholarship.
