As a certified substance use counselor (ICADC), with various life experiences with the mental health system and the addiction services field, I have obtained an affinity for supporting individuals experiencing mental health and addiction concerns. Due to post-secondary education, working within various sectors of the social services field, in addition to personal experience; it has become evident that recovery in any aspect, is as much about the body as it is the mind and soul. I am passionate about meeting individuals at their current stage and supporting them on their unique journey to recovery. As an addiction counselor, communication is key and not just on a verbal level. Being able to listen and understand the individual’s body language, facial expressions as well as verbal communication is essential in creating therapeutic rapports and obtaining an accurate understanding. I believe in supporting individuals through various forms of strengths-based counseling, motivational interviewing techniques as well as CBT-informed practices with the intent of providing them the life skills, coping mechanisms, and self-awareness needed to create a life worth living, without escape.
I am seeking a career challenge where I can make a valuable contribution through applying my experience, knowledge, and skills as well as a desire to continue professional development.
